Storm. Middle Fork Salmon River.
Looking for rain at breakfast.

Trail Camp. Mile 65.

Rowing into the storm.

Then it broke. At first we thought they were fish jumping.

Then, the sun.

Toot-elage.

No better way to celebrate a summer storm than with some Kumbaya.

Eastern Sierra Memorial Day.
Chased the weather to the Eastern Sierra. Sure felt good to get out in the open where you could watch the storm coming for hours before it hit you.
Woke up camped near below Crater Mountain near Mono Lake. Found some obsidian.

To the hot springs.

Crab Cooker Hot Springs.

Desert was blooming.

Pine Creek and the Wheeler Ridge.

The Cal Salmon River
July 6th was just one of those days. We caught and cooked fish, discovered new creeks, explored abondoned cabins, braved rickety footbridges, happened upon mining camps, swam in shady pools, bushwacked and backtracked. But besides all that, the best part of the day may have been the drive back down the Cal Salmon river along the extraordinary Salmon River Road, especially when combined with a freak hail storm. Everyone should see this place at least once.

Hail the size of quail eggs. Everywhere.
